I recently was out running errands and when I came out to leave my truck wouldn't start.
I checked several places for prices. It ranged from $950.00 to $1,100.00 dollars.
I also wanted to know what it would cost for the part. All the repair shops said that the cheapest pumped cost $550.00 dollars. I checked with an auto parts store and the most expensive pump was $310.00 dollars! I felt like I was being lied to. I, like you I'm sure, want to pay what it's worth but I don't think doubling the price on the part is right.
So I started checking to see what I could do to save my family money.
I found a website that the autorepair shops use to diagnose with step-by-step repair of YOUR vehicle. It cost me $26.95 for a year on my vehicle. After reviewing the site and printing off step-by-step instructions on what to do. I fixed the vehicle (with the help of a family member) in just about 2 hours.
Let's do the math! Givng the mechanic shops the benefit of the doubt. $950.00 for them to repair, minus $310.00 for the pump, $26.95 for the diagnostic and step-by-step instructions and I was don't in about 2 hours. I just make $306.53 per hour. Is it worth taking some time off to fix it? I thought so.
